PRIVATE STUDY
Private Lessons Learn voice, strings, fiddle, woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, organ, harpsichord, harp/Celtic harp, guitar, bass guitar, dobro or mandolin! A minimum of two hours of lessons is required of 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length. Regular Suzuki Academy group classes resume Fall 2017.

Beach Days Breathe in that salty air, we are going to the "beach"! Crabs are scuttling, fish are swimming, toes are wiggling, bells are jingling and the sun is shining! Celebrating the unique joys of toddlers, this music-filled class features singing, dancing, active listening and a variety of instruments.

Summer Arts Program* Develop your child’s creativity, imagination and self-expression. Each day includes music instruction and one other discipline: dance, yoga or art, all taught by professional teaching artists. Our theme for the week is “Meet the Orchestra.” Children will also experience an orchestra rehearsal and daily instrument demos in this wonderful camp!

Horn Ensemble Celebration A weeklong celebration of horn ensemble playing, this summer program is for intermediate, advanced and amateur hornists. Participants will divide into ensembles based on their experience level and come together for a joint performance at the end of the week. Younger students considered on an individual basis.

STRING PROGRAMS
Jump Start Twinkles An introduction to the Suzuki method and philosophy for violin, Jump Start Twinkles allows you and your child to experience music-making in a fun, comfortable environment. Students who are considering the Suzuki Academy are encouraged to join us and “jump start” their Suzuki studies.

Summer Suzuki Academy Group Classes & Play-In for Violin Keep the momentum going! Designed to help Suzuki students keep review pieces fresh and continue to practice throughout the summer. Violin classes meet weekly in July and early August. Attendance at all sessions is not mandatory. The play-in on August 3 will be held in a local park, weather permitting.

Delaware Orchestral & Chamber Music Institute Contact us at (302) 762-1132 to schedule an audition.
A comprehensive camp focused on orchestral and chamber music for advanced/intermediate string, woodwind, brass and percussion students. Participate in orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, instrumental and conducting master classes, chamber music sessions, movement sessions and special presentations by professional guest artists and ensembles. A placement audition is required for participation. Counselor positions (100% tuition remission) will be awarded to rising high school seniors and college freshmen by audition. Fellowships (including a small stipend) will be awarded to rising college sophomores and older by audition. All other students are eligible to audition for select Leadership Scholarships.

Conducting Seminar For students wishing to learn the art of conducting. Workshop includes orchestral experience in front of an orchestra and in a master class setting with Maestro Simeone Tartaglione daily. Students may conduct a piece on the final Delaware Orchestral and Chamber Music Institute concert. Enrollment is limited; students will be selected by Maestro Tartaglione.

PIANO PROGRAMS
Summer Piano Institute featuring Guest Pianist Michelle Cann
Advancing pianists interested in improving their performance skills will work with guest artists and Music School faculty on solo repertoire and duet/duo piano literature in private/group lessons and master classes. Activities will also include harpsichord and organ lessons, theory and other supplemental classes. Participants may enter The Music School of Delaware Piano Competition without charge. The week will culminate with a recital performance. Praised for her "fine musical intelligence and emotional depth," American pianist Michelle Cann will serve as the guest artist for the week. A graduate of the Curtis Institute, Ms. Cann will present a solo recital on Monday, July 24 at 7pm.

The Music School of Delaware Piano Competition Please complete BOTH sides of the Summer 2017 Registration Form with your teacher's signature to enter.
A competitive performance experience for serious, advancing piano students. Prizes will be awarded for outstanding performances of solo piano repertoire, based on technical fluency, accuracy, and musical interpretation, in up to 3 age categories.
Ages Age Categories (as of July 24, 2017)
I:      ages 10–12, 5-minute max.
II:     ages 13–15, 8-minute max.
III:    ages 16–18, 10-minute max.
When Monday, July 24, beginning at 10am
(each student will be assigned an individual performance time)
Rules
  • Deadline for application (with fee) is July 1, 2017. Students must complete BOTH sides of the registration form to enter.
  • Students are eligible to compete in a given category if they have not previously received first prize in the same age category.
  • Student must perform a piece from the standard solo piano repertoire. Complete performance time cannot exceed time limit of entrant’s age category.
  • All music must be memorized and an original copy provided for the judge(s); no photocopies allowed.
  • Winners will be selected based on an audition before judge(s). Criteria include technical fluency, accuracy and musical interpretation.
  • If only one contestant applies in a category or if there is not a qualified contestant, the judge(s) may decide not to select a winner.
  • Cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to the winners in each category. The number of prizes awarded is at the discretion of the judge(s).
  • Winners will be notified on Monday evening, and certificates presented in a master class on Tuesday, July 25, at 10am. First-prize winners are required to play in this master class, given by the 2017 Piano Institute guest artist.
Fee $50 (waived for Summer Piano Institute participants); no Summer Processing Fee

Cello Festival
Adult Cello Festival “When I started learning the cello, I fell in love with the instrument because it seemed like a voice—my voice.” Mstislav Rostropovich. Find your voice during our 4-day festival for cello enthusiasts. Participate in small ensembles and cello orchestra, and enjoy a faculty recital. Socialize at a reception on Friday night and a lunch on Saturday.

Choral Exploration Day NEW! A one-day workshop for adult church musicians, singers and conductors alike, designed to allow participants to explore different styles of sacred music, including Gospel, Anglican Chant and Psalmody, and a reading session of sacred choral literature. Singers would spend 1.25 hours in each choral area, directed by an expert in that particular style.
