The Music School of Delaware Presents Student Awards, Prizes and Scholarships

(WILMINGTON, DEL.) June 14, 2011 – The Music School of Delaware hosted its annual Honor Awards Recital & Ceremony on May 25, 2011 to present students with the following school prizes, scholarships and awards.


The David Bromberg String Prizes are awarded to promising violin, viola and cello students enrolled at The Music School of Delaware, based on an audition before a panel of judges. Each winner receives a bow donated by David Bromberg Fine Violins, LLC. The 2011 winners are: Phoebe Hu, viola student of Amy Leonard, Daniel Junghoon Kim, cello student of Jennifer Stomberg and Nathan Lowman, violin student of Kate Ransom.


The Estella Hillersohn Frankel Scholarship Fund was established in 1982 to promote and advance the study of violin. Grants are applied to enrichment programs or opportunities such as workshops, master classes, music camps, chamber music ensembles, large ensembles or music theory classes. The 2011 recipients are: Alexis Meschter, violin student of Christof Richter - tied for First Prize; Hiroto Saito, violin student of Kimberly Fisher - tied for First Prize; Marius Sander violin student of Eliezer Gutman - tied for First Prize; and Emma Scott, violin student of Elissa Wagman - Second Prize.


The Jacqueline Beach Faulcon Honor Award, established by Music School faculty Jacqueline Beach Faulcon in 2001, was created as a merit scholarship for students between the ages of 6 and 21 of African-American, Hispanic, West Indian, Haitian or Islands background. The 2011 recipient is Emma Gould, violin student of Shelley Beard Schleigh.


Music School Honor Awards have been established through the generosity of many individuals and organizations. These special awards are given to students who have achieved a high level of music proficiency. Those chosen by the audition panel receive scholarship amounts toward continued study at The Music School of Delaware. The 2011 Honor Award recipients and honorable mentions are Bhaskar Balaji*, piano student of Donna Beech; Chloe Braynen, piano student of Lotus Cheng; Madeleine Delbeau, cello student of Jennifer Stomberg; Genna Hahn*, flute student of Mindy Bowman; Phoebe Hu, viola student of Amy Leonard; Maria Ji*, flute student of Paula Nelson; Daniel Junghoon Kim, cello student of Jennifer Stomberg; Angela Li, flute of Lynne Cooksey; Pearl Li*, piano student of Lotus Cheng; Nathan Lowman, violin student of Kate Ransom; Laurella Lutz, flute student of Lynne Cooksey; Alexis Meschter, violin student of Christof Richter; Andrew Minkovitz, piano student of David Brown; Rachel Rice, cello student of Jennifer Stomberg; Marius Sander, violin student of Eliezer Gutman; Emma Scott, violin student of Elissa Wagman and piano student of Oleg Maslov; Daniel Wang, piano student of David Brown; and Catherine Yu, piano student of Lotus Cheng.


The Certificate Program is designed for the most serious young musicians to inspire and stimulate their music study. Certificates are awarded to Music School students to recognize special accomplishment in music studies, including private vocal or instrumental instruction and supplemental music classes and ensembles. The 2011 Certificate Program graduate is Emma Scott, violin student of Elissa Wagman.
