The Music School of Delaware Announces Showcase and MusicBuild 2011 Invention Contest
(WILMINGTON, DEL.) March 23, 2011 – The Music School of Delaware will host its Showcase spectacular on June 8th presenting over 200 student and adult musicians in eight choral and orchestral ensembles “center stage” at The Grand Opera House. This collaborative concert will feature Delaware’s finest student and amateur musicians ranging in age from 6 to 80 years.
In conjunction with this year’s Showcase, the Music School announces MusicBuild 2011—a contest for young inventors, an opportunity for students to demonstrate their creativity and ingenuity in the invention of a new musical instrument or an original device that creates musical sounds. MusicBuild 2011 is open to all pre-college age students as individual or team entrants. Winners of MusicBuild 2011 will be announced at the Showcase. Applications are due May 2nd.
Also new for this year, The Music School of Delaware will present David Bromberg String Prizes to promising Music School violin, viola and cello students. Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 7th and prizes will be awarded at the Showcase. Prize recipients will receive a bow for their instrument from David Bromberg Fine Violins LLC.
“The year’s Showcase will highlight the many talents, from captivating musical performances to unique musical inventions, of the Delaware Valley’s youth population,” comments Music School President & CEO Kate M. Ransom. “We invite all school age inventors from any school to participate in the new MusicBuild invention contest. The performances at the Grand are open to all at a nominal ticket price. Time: Grand opens at 6:00 p.m.; Rising Stars performance featuring the Music School’s most advanced students begins at 6:15 p.m. in the baby grand; student chamber music ensembles perform in the salon at 6:15 p.m.; Showcase begins at 7:00 p.m.; and Brandywine Fiddlers & Matson Run Pickers will perform in the salon during intermission.
