The Music School of Delaware Receives 2010 Governor’s Award for the Arts

(WILMINGTON, DEL.) September 7, 2010– The Music School of Delaware is a recipient of the 2010 Governor’s Award for the Arts in the organization category. The prestigious award recognizes organizations, collaborators and individuals who have made a profound and lasting impact on Delaware’s artistic and cultural life.


The awards ceremony, hosted by Governor Jack Markell on October 4, 2010 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover, will feature performances by Music School Honor Award student Nathan Lowman, violin, accompanied by faculty Liliya Maslov, piano; faculty Melinda Bowman, flute; and faculty Christopher Braddock, guitar.


“Receiving the Governor’s Award for the Arts is a wonderful honor for the Music School - we are proud to be included among the outstanding Delaware arts organizations to have received it,” commented the school’s president and chief executive, Kate M. Ransom. “In the most recent decade of the school’s history, we have been partnering and innovating extensively, and becoming a community resource with regional impact and locations statewide. We are continuing to pursue the school’s 85-year track record of music excellence for everyone. I am gratified that the school is being recognized for its role as a leading arts organization in the state.”


The Music School of Delaware is now enrolling all ages and all levels at statewide locations in Wilmington, Milford, Pike Creek, Middletown, Dover, Felton, Angola/Long Neck and Seaford. The Music School offers standard-setting instructional programs including an Early Childhood program; Suzuki Academy; private and group vocal and instrumental instruction; choral and instrumental ensembles for youth, teens and adults; and group classes. The Music School is the only nationally accredited program of its kind in Delaware and is the only statewide accredited community music school in the nation.
