Wilmington, Del. - The Music School of Delaware proudly celebrates its 85th year of providing excellence in music education and experiences in the Delaware Valley. As one of Delaware’s original arts organizations, the Music School is the state’s largest music resource reaching thousands of people each year from Delaware and surrounding states. The Music School will celebrate this milestone anniversary at an 85th Anniversary Celebration & Showcase concert to be held on June 3, 2010 at The Grand Opera House.

Since opening the doors on October 1, 1924, the Music School has remained committed to its mission of providing music excellence for everyone. Today, the Music School is the nation’s only nationally accredited statewide community music school and serves people of all ages and levels including those with special needs. Financial assistance programs are available to ensure everyone in the community has an opportunity for a music education.

“The Music School has evolved into an organization with a strong reputation for excellence, advancement and innovation,” says President & CEO Kate M. Ransom. “In recent years we have increased the scope to include a statewide footprint; added leading instructional programs such as the Suzuki Academy; opened new state-of-the-art facilities; and received awards recognizing the quality and breadth of the school's programming.”

The 85th Anniversary Celebration & Showcase concert will place the Music School’s large orchestral, choral and chamber music ensembles, a total of over 250 musicians, “center stage” in Delaware’s premier concert venue. Last year’s Showcase concert drew a crowd of over 1100 people and included special guests Governor Jack Markell, David Amado and David Bromberg. Tickets go on sale May1st and are sold ONLY at the Music School.

"The 85th Anniversary Celebration and Showcase is a fitting tribute to the school's track record of excellence - with a program featuring many of Delaware’s finest musicians,” comments Bruce Dittmar, Chair of the Board of Directors. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime for many of our students – including myself!” Mr. Dittmar is a violin student and member of the Wilmington Community Orchestra.
