CALVARY COMMUNITY SERIES: Born in the 20th Century
January 10, 2:00 p.m., Free! Donations appreciated
Calvary Episcopal Church, 304 Lore Avenue, Wilmington
This concert will feature a combination of works from 20th century artists including Miles Davis, Nikita Koshkin, Andrea Clearfield and Music School faculty Christopher Braddock, Chuck Holdeman and Kirk O’Riordan.
FAMILY CONCERT: Einstein’s Mozart: Two Geniuses
January 10, 3:00 p.m., Tickets $5

Recommended for children ages 11 years and up
Join special guests Serafin String Quartet and poet Kate Light for an afternoon of poetry and music. Children will experience the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and learn about the inspiration the music gave Albert Einstein.

CULTURAL CROSSROADS PROGRAM: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Black History Month Tribute
January 15, 7:30 p.m., Tickets $5, advance ticket purchase recommended

Proceeds will benefit the Jacqueline Beach Faulcon Honor Award scholarship fund for students of African-American, Hispanic, West Indian, Haitian or Islands background.
This ambitious and eclectic program will feature a variety of musical genres. Matthew Shipp, Wilmington native and internationally-known jazz artist, will perform solo piano works. Shipp has been called “one of today’s most iconic artists” by All About Jazz, “a rebel of the ivories” by Pop Matters, and “one of jazz’s most original ‘outside’ musicians” by The Boston Globe.”
In addition, The Music School of Delaware’s student jazz combo will perform music of Wilmington jazz legends Clifford Brown, Lem Winchester and Robert "Boysie" Lowery. The concert will also feature Jacqueline and Clarence Faulcon, the Music School’s Select Choral Ensemble, the University of Delaware Gospel Choir, a DJ tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by DJ Steel Force and a performance of West African rhythms and dance, featuring dancer Salimata Linguer from Music School partner organization, the Christina Cultural Arts Center. A visual art exhibit featuring paintings by Tanya Bracey is on display at the Music School through January 20.
ORCHESTRAL CONCERT: Delaware Youth Orchestra & Suzuki Orchestras
January 19, 7:00 p.m., Free!

This concert features performances by the Music School’s Delaware Youth Orchestra (ages 9 to 15) conducted by Christina von Duyke and Suzuki Orchestras (ages 3 to 9) conducted by Julianne Murphy.
EARLY CHILDHOOD: Family Music Celebration
January 23, 10:30 a.m., Free!

Come out of the cold and into the Music School for a Family Music Celebration. Families will enjoy musical activities led by the Early Childhood faculty. A parent orientation will begin at 10:00 a.m. to provide an overview of the Music School’s Early Childhood programs. Recommended for children ages 1½ to 7 years

Enjoy an evening of music with the Music School’s Delaware Youth Symphony (ages 14 to 18) conducted by Dr. Michael Larkin.
MUSIC MASTERS CONCERT SERIES: Bach, Brahms and…?
January 27, 7:30 p.m., Tickets $10 for adults/$5 for students & seniors

Proceeds benefit the Anthony G. Simmons Scholarship Fund
This concert features works by Bach, Brahms and Barber with performances by Music School faculty and special guests Serafin String Quartet and Marka Kasker Simmons, viola.

Founded in 1924, The Music School of Delaware reaches thousands of people from Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland through its instructional programs and 75 public performances each year. The Music School is the only nationally accredited program of its kind in Delaware and is the only statewide accredited community music school in the nation.
